Adding Perseverance to Self-Control

Point of View:
So after adding self-control to knowledge, Peter tells us to add perseverance to self-control. To better understand what exactly that means, let’s take a look at the definition. Perseverance is defined as: “A continued effort to accomplish a goal regardless of difficulties, obstacles, or set backs. So, being a Christian isn’t always easy, right? People sometimes make fun of you, try to prove you wrong and disrespect the fact that you are trying to glorify God. As you continue to grow in your relationship with Christ, you will realize that some of those things let up, but some get harder. That is why Peter tells us to add perseverance to our self-control. We have to remember to stay cool and persevere through all the hard times and keep on glorifying God. How can you do that? Equip the Armor of God, and keep on growing in your relationship with the Father! Keep reading the Bible, praying and sharing His name and you will see that you can persevere through any hard time. You “can do all this through him who gives” you “strength.” - Philippians 4:13 So…

The Challenge:
Pursue God at all costs! It is time to persevere through the difficulties, being made fun of, pain and other obstacles and keep on following God. Keep your cool and continue to grow closer to God! Know this, your perseverance will not go unnoted. (James 1:12) Fix your eyes on God and hop over any obstacle that comes your way.

Prayer Points:
• Thank God for giving us what we need to stand strong against the Devil; the Armor of God. (If we can stand strong against the Devil, than we can stand strong against anyone here on earth)
• Ask for patience as persevering through trials is tough, and sometimes long.
• Pray for those who are hardest to love! Sometime the ones who are hardest to love need love the most. Show them Christ! (The ultimate gift of love)

The Word:

5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance...-2 Peter 1:5-6

16 Therefore we do not lose heart. (Don’t quit) Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles (through perseverance) are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
- 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. - James 1:12
